Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish. I think it’s a fun and fantastic idea and here’s this week’s Top Ten.
This is my first Top Ten Tuesday post of the Fall and I really like this week’s topic which is Top Ten Books I Would Love To See As A Movie/TV Show. More like 9 for me.
Indian Horse is easily the best book I’ve read this year and it’s one of my favourite books of the year. I would love to see Saul’s story told in a movie or tv series format because it’s an important one. As a Canadian, I think it’s important for us to acknowledge the mistreatment of our Native populations. Also I want to know more about Native American Hockey players. I don’t follow Hockey so I can’t tell you the statistics for the number of Native Hockey Players in the NHL, personally I want to know more. I’m not sure if this book will be turned into a movie adaptation or a tv series, if it does make no mistake, I will even go for a midnight screening if there is one! Saul’s story has really stayed with me this whole year and I’m glad for it.
This is a book that slowly crept up on me and I really enjoyed. I would love to see a movie version of this because I don’t think a tv series would work very well for it. I adored Jamie’s narration and his character. He was just such an innocent and curious child. He was so believable in his honesty and love for his family. Although I had problems with the ending of this story I did enjoy it a lot!
Ahem…BBC One yes I do mean you…How can you not make a tv series of A Tale of Two Cities?!! How can Sydney Carton not tug at your heartstrings? Anyways whining aside I really really want to see a BBC adaptation of this Dickens novel. It’s one of my favourite works by him. The story is just so heartbreaking and wonderful. The characters, the dialogue, the plot- it’s Dickens at his best I would say. Sydney Carton is a character that will always stay with me. He deserved so much more, especially after what we find out in the end.
I think The Court of Owls saga would work best as an animated motion picture and I don’t doubt for a second that DC wouldn’t be able to pull it off. Over the years they’ve done some outstanding Batman/Superman and Wonder Woman animated movies. My personal favourite is Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, but Court of Owls has been one of the best Batman stories I’ve ever read and I would love to see it come to life on the big screen. I think it’s doable because of the villains who are so intriguing and dangerous. The Court is one of DC’s best villains from the Batman Universe.
MBBM is another favourite of mine from this year. I really really liked this book. It was funny and heartwarming. I think the real reason I would love to see a movie of this is because I want to see Tara’s Jewish grandma Ruthie. I keep on picturing Betty White as Ruthie. I think she would be so fantastic! I’m not sure who I would want to see as Tara, but I’d love to hear if Paula J. Freedman has any suggestions!
I love love this series! I feel like it would be a fantastic tv production. My favourite book is the last one: Adam Canfield: The Last Reporter. I loved all the characters in this series. My favourite is Phoebe-the world’s greatest third grade reporter. She is such a fantastic character. I think she reminded me of how delightful kids could be before they hit their teenage years lol. I do hope Michael Winerip writes more because I loved this series so much.
I was in two minds about including The Raven Boys because I would be very very disappointed if a production company messes this one up. Upon re-reading the book just last month it’s become a favourite YA title of mine. While Ronan will always be my favourite, followed closely by Adam, there’s something about all of them that just draws you to them. I don’t know if actors could do a better job with their appearance in comparison to the ones in my head of the boys, they better be darn good actors to play these four. While I like Blue, I’m a bit indifferent towards her. She’s great, but it’s not like “Oh my gosh, I love you!” feeling for me when it comes to her. The Dream Thieves can be released any day now, instead of me waiting till the 17th to grab a copy of it ;).
To be honest I’m not entirely sure if I want a movie or a tv series of Jorg Ancrath. I feel like a tv series would be better to capture the essence of him and also I do wonder how it would work with first person narration, but still I think I’ll always be curious to see what Jorg would like on the big screen. Also Geoffrey can’t play him because I don’t think Jorg is blonde anyways ;).
In Grade 8 Grave Secrets was one of my favourite books. It actually stayed with me until now. I think it was a reminder to me as to how great some of the Canadian authors out there are. I haven’t read any of McNicoll’s other work, but I have a feeling that if I do go and read them I’d still enjoy it. I do feel like Grave Secrets would make a great tv movie-especially for the summer. I don’t think it’s long enough to be considered to be full-out motion picture production, but it would be such an awesome tv movie. I loved Nicholas and Marie-Ann. I loved the story of Sasha and the story surrounding the mysterious death. Now that I’ve spoken about it, I feel like I need to borrow a copy from the Library again sometime.
That’s it from me for this post! What are some books that you’d love to see turned into Tv Shows or Movie Adaptations?
